THINK you can help make a difference to the lives of young adults this summer? Essex Youth Service needs you!
Around 1,000 young people aged 16 and 17 across the county will take part in National Citizen Service (NCS) this summer, taking part in a range of exciting activities and away days to help them build vital life skills.
Enthusiastic support staff are crucial to the day-to-day running of the service to help participants get the most out of the programme – and Essex Youth Service is recruiting new team members now.
A wide range of roles, locations, start dates and contracts are on offer, meaning there could be something for you regardless of experience.
NCS seasonal staff team member Hannah said: “Choosing to work on NCS in the summer allowed me to support my teacher training applications with real life examples of how I worked with and supported a group of young people. I’m now on a teacher training course but can’t wait to come back and be a member of staff again next year!”
There are three stages of the NCS programme:
Phase 1 – Adventure
During the first phase, teams will visit an outdoor activity centre for four nights and five days. Staff will support young people to take part in various activities including high ropes, archery and problem solving.
Phase 2 – Skills
In phase two teams will visit Essex University for four nights and five days and stay in student halls style accommodation. Teams will work together to learn new skills and explore their communities, gaining independence in the process.
Phase 3 – Make a Difference
Using their newly-acquired skills, teams will design and deliver a social action project in their local area using an Essex Youth Service centre as their base for the final two weeks.
Fully paid residential training will also take place prior to the summer to provide all new recruits with the tools they need to deliver the best NCS possible.
