Season’s Preview: Harlow Town: Consistency may be key

Harlow Town FC 3

LAST season, most Harlow Town fans appeared to be happy with consistency and adopting to the new surroundings and challenges of the then Ryman Premier. Naturally, that wasn’t the philosophy of Danny Chapman and the team. They were out to win every game.

But Harlow Town performed much better than expected and there were times when the play-offs were within their grasp.

The fact that they did not get promoted may be a blessing as last season gave them a lot of time to experience. Now that they have experienced the Premier, many now feel it may be the time to kick on.

There have been signings such as Nigel Neita and Xavier Vidal as well as retaining players such as Alex Read.

There are a number of impressive teams in the league. Billericay have attracted all the headlines with their stellar signing such as Jermaine Pennant. Dulwich Hamlet (who travel to the Arena on Tuesday) must be, along with Kingstonian and Lowestoft Town. However, there are no nailed on favourites, which make it such an attractive league and gives Harlow Town a real opportunity.

A few seasons ago, this reporter followed an East Thurrock season in the Ryman Premier very closely and they managed through consistency and determination (as well as very good football) to get promoted.

We hope the fans continue to be loyal as they are fantastic and help create a real atmosphere at the games.

Things are travelling fast off the pitch and create a real feel for a club and a community club at that going places.

They are away at Hendon on Saturday. 3pm.
