Tony Edwards announced as Labour Candidate for Toddbrook by-election to be held on 28 September
TONY Edwards is today announced as the Labour candidate in the Harlow Council Toddbrook Ward by-election to be held on September 28. The by-election has been triggered by the resignation of Labour Councillor Rod Truan who is to move to Cornwall to take up an Assistant Head Teacher position. Toddbrook Labour members selected Tony Edwards as their candidate for the election.
Tony Edwards said today: “I’m very pleased to have been selected to stand in the by-election and would be honoured to represent the residents of Toddbrook on Harlow Council. There are many great opportunities for Harlow over the coming years. If elected, I will work closely with Councillors Karen Clempner and Phil Waite to secure these for the benefit of the town as a whole, and for the residents of Toddbrook in particular.”
Tony Edwards first moved to Harlow as a child in 1957 and has lived in the Town for most of his life. He has lived in Bishopsfield and Northbrooks and is familiar with the issues faced by Toddbrook residents.
Tony’s children were educated in Harlow and for over 12 years he was a School Governor at two local schools.
Professionally, Tony has 35 years’ experience as a social worker and social work manager, working primarily with adults with mental health problems and Learning disabilities. He has worked at Princess Alexandra Hospital and has a first-hand understanding of the challenges currently faced by the organisation and its hardworking staff.
Tony is acutely aware of the cuts made by Tory controlled Essex County Council to services such as Social Care, Libraries, Policing, Youth Services and which are also responsible for the appalling state of our roads and has been vocal in his opposition to them.
Harlow Labour Party Chair, Charlie Cochrane said today; “Tony Edwards is a strong candidate and I know he will waste no time getting out and about and meeting people on the doorstep. He has been a longstanding and active Labour Party member and I have every confidence that if elected he will be a passionate advocate on the Council for the people of Toddbrook and for the town he knows and loves. I would like to thank Rod Truan for his many years of service to Harlow and wish him well with the move to Cornwall.”
