A MEMBER of staff at St Clare Hospice who heads up their Community fundraising has signed up to undertake one of the charity’s own events. Dani De’ath, Community Fundraising Lead at the Hastingwood-based charity, will be taking part in her first ever half marathon on Sunday 8 October and aims to raise £500 in sponsorship.
Dani De’ath, 31 years old from Harlow, joined the charity in June 2015 and has supported the charity’s local community supporters to raise hundreds of thousands of pounds during that time. When Dani saw the Royal Parks Half Marathon advertised at the Hospice, she felt motivated to put herself forward for her first ever half marathon distance run.
Dani said: “Over the past two years I have helped hundreds of committed St Clare supporters to host dozens of different fundraising events for the Hospice. Together our local community raises more than a quarter of a million pounds every year – making them real hospice heroes to me. Not only that, but I have come into contact with countless heroic patients and families who are going through one of life’s toughest journeys. It has been witnessing, day in and day out, this incredible bravery, and the amazing work of all the clinical teams at St Clare, that motivated me to sign myself up to the Royal Parks half marathon.”
“I couldn’t have chosen a more challenging event to put myself forward for! I am not a seasoned runner, I have only ever run 10k before signing up for the half marathon, and I only have a few more weeks to train for it. But I know I couldn’t be doing it for a more worthy cause. I feel like taking part in this tough, personal challenge is my way of really giving something back to the hospice that I love.”
Dani will be running the Royal Parks Half Marathon on Sunday 8 October along with nine other St Clare supporters, who aim to raise a combined total of £5,000 for the Hospice. The picturesque 13.1-mile route winds through four of London’s eight Royal Parks and passes some of London’s most iconic landmarks on closed roads, including Buckingham Palace.
