THIS week sees the opening of a brand new car park in Bishop’s Stortford, just in time for that busy Christmas shopping period.
The temporary car park has opened on the site of the former No.1 The Causeway building and will operate while proposals are being developed for the whole Old River Lane area. There will be 100 long stay spaces in total. 50 will be available to the public Monday to Friday and 75 on Saturday and Sunday. The other spaces will be reserved for tenants of nearby Charringtons House.
In the New Year four of these bays will be converted to electric vehicle charging bays. Two will support an electric vehicle car club and the other two will be available to the general public.
Cllr Gary Jones, executive member for parking, East Herts Council said:
“The car parks in Bishop’s Stortford are busy, especially in the lead up to Christmas, so it is great to able to offer residents, visitors and workers in the town an additional place to park. We are also pleased to provide electric charging points within this car park for electric car drivers, to help support sustainable travel within our district.”
The car park charges will remain the same, with it costing just £4.40 to park for the whole day.
