ANDI Walker was a MasterChef: The Professionals semi-finalist in 2015 and following the success of his pop-up at The Riverside Inn, he has now officially taken over the restaurant in its entirety.
Marked by a celebratory launch event last week on the 25th January 2018, this permanent residency has excited press and the local community alike.
Friends, family and press were invited to an evening of cocktails and canapes as the new face of The Riverside Inn mingled. Andi’s guests sampled several of his dishes along with delicious canape tasters of what’s to come on his new gastro menu.
Andi continues to be extremely passionate about supporting local businesses. Goodie bags were given to all guests at the launch event containing products developed by Essex-based companies, from Fairfields Farm Crisps and Retrocorn to Boutique Brownies.
Andi’s philosophy of using only the finest locally-sourced, seasonal produce has been extended to the entire restaurant. The Riverside Inn has been split into three distinct areas: The bar, suitable for those wanting a lighter option. Here, creative twists on the usual bar snacks can be paired with a refreshing drink. The main gastro pub in the downstairs area; an array of exciting dishes awaits, including: a crispy chilli beef salad, monkfish scampi, crispy confit duck leg and chocolate fondant with peanut butter ice cream. As for the upstairs restaurant, fine-dining cuisine continues to be served comprising of a six-course tasting menu changing in accordance with the availability of local and seasonal produce.
Andi has expressed his excitement at launching this permanent residency: “Following the continued success of the pop-up restaurant I ran on the top floor, it seemed natural to make it a permanent fixture.
I am delighted with the launch and thrilled with the response we received from the first weekend of the official take over at The Riverside Inn. I am now simply excited to serve my own creations week on week.
I hope as an independent restaurant with local suppliers, the people in Chelmsford and the surrounding areas continue to support us and enjoy everything we do.”
Throughout his career, Andi has worked in numerous high-profile kitchens including being the Head Chef at The Woodford and working as part of the team at three-AA-rosette Tuffenham Mill in Suffolk. His impressive portfolio also includes training under world-renowned chef Anton Edelmann, who was maître chef des cuisines at the Savoy Hotel, London for more than 20 years.
Andi has continued to demonstrate a passion and flair for flavour throughout his career which is now reflected in his exciting menus for The Riverside Inn. Andi hopes he will bring a unique dining experience to the flourishing city of Chelmsford.
The recent opening is to be closely followed by the release of an indulgent five-course Valentine’s menu exclusively available on the 14th, 16th and 17th February. A deliciously tempting brunch menu will also be available from the beginning of March, highlighting Andi’s continued versatility offering new and exciting dishes for his guests.
