NATIONAL Poetry Day was marked at Stewards Academy with a poetry writing competition and poetry readings in the comfort of the academy’s library.
This year’s theme was change and pupils and staff explored a diverse range of poems from the dark and deep, humorous, meaningful and personal.
All budding poets received positive points as part of the academy’s rewards policy. It was a pleasure to read the entries and the winning poet was Luis from year 8 with a poem about bullying.
Roisin O’Grady, Subject Leader for English, said: “It is fantastic to see so many pupils engaging with poetry. It was a pleasure listening to them read confidently both published poems and those they had written themselves.”
Marie Erwood MBE, said: “It was a total joy and reinforced why Stewards is so special. All the pupils were so brave to explore their thoughts and feelings and so confident in their delivery when they read them aloud.”
