Have your say on plans to improve A414 near Harlow

HERTFORDSHIRE County Council’s A414 Corridor Strategy sets out 30 improvement plans along the east-west route and the public are invited to express their opinion.

The proposal concerns a route from Hemel Hempstead in the west to Harlow in the east, taking in Watford, St Albans, Welwyn Hatfield and Broxbourne along the way.

It includes a bypass south of Hertford; a new junction on the M1; improvements to the Park Street and London Colney roundabouts; a new public transport link across the county, and improvements to walking and cycling routes along the A414.

Derrick Ashley, cabinet member for growth, infrastructure, planning and the economy, said: “There are over 100,000 new homes planned for Hertfordshire by 2031 and 50 per cent of these will be along the A414 route.

“This will have a significant impact on the road itself and on the towns along the route, and the increased traffic congestion will lead to longer journey times if we do nothing.

“We need to make improvements to this key cross-county road, but just as importantly we need to make walking, cycling and public transport more attractive and practical options.

“A key part of ensuring we deliver ‘good growth’ will be to ensure that our communities are economically, socially and environmentally sustainable. To do this we need people to make sustainable transport choices and we need to have the supporting infrastructure and improvements in place along the A414 corridor.”

These changes will be implemented over the next 20 years.

This consultation closes on June 8, 2019.

Ideal escape route for HGV’s that may have been stuck on the M25 and M11.
What with the ridiculous 7a junction too, Harlow is going to be engulfed by
    traffic.

Have to agree with you MickyB77 …. Hertfordshire CC’s plan then takes you to the edge of Harlow and them what …. on to Essex’s plan for a new river crossing that it is intended to take traffic right through the industrial estate and onto the already heavily congested Edinburgh Way where it has taken over 2 years just to improve a stretch of road a couple of hundred yards long. In the meantime Gilston Garden town will be well on the way to being built, all of the traffic from there will have to travel south and thus enter and exit onto the A414 ….. but no, wait, the planners and local politicians all think residents will get on a bus on a new busway (which will completely dissect Harlow) or use a bike, so no need to worry! You could not make it up. Simply a case of building thousands of houses, builders making millions of pounds profit and clearing off without any thought of the consequences.
