St Clare’s Harlow Shop Manager urges locals to volunteer in their local charity shop
Kevin Stocker (59, from Harlow) has joined the team at St Clare Hospice’s flagship charity shop at the St James Centre in Harlow, where he is the new Shop Manager. Kevin brings with him extensive retail experience, having been a self-employed sole trader selling collectables and antiques for more than 25 years, and, more recently, a manager of the Old Harlow branch of Sue Ryder care.
As part of Kevin’s role, he manages a team of five part-time staff and 30 enthusiastic volunteers in the shop. More than 230 people, aged 16-92, give their time to volunteer in St Clare’s eight charity shops every year, offering their invaluable help in sorting donations, providing excellent customer service and maintaining the shop floor.
Kevin said: “We are always looking for volunteers to cover a variety of shifts throughout the week and I’m keen to hear from those who have volunteered in the past at the Harlow shop who might be interested in volunteering again in the new year.”
Kevin, who was born and raised in Harlow and has always lived in the area, said about his new appointment: “I’m very proud to have been given the opportunity to work for such a great local charity which provides amazing care for people in Harlow. As manager, I want to help make St Clare Harlow an even better place to shop, work and volunteer. St Clare Harlow is a great place to shop with bargains for all the family; you can dress the family for under £10 per person and still have money left over for cd’s, DVD’s and a few kids’ toys.”
St Clare Hospice’s Harlow shop is currently recruiting for more volunteers to help in the store located at Unit2A, St James Centre, East road, Harlow, CM20 2BJ.
