The very annoying flashing street-light near Town Centre

A NUMBER of our readers have contacted us about a flashing street light in Harlow.

It is on Third Avenue, opposite the Water Gardens car park.

It is quite distracting. Some drivers report the they think there is another driver flashing their lights at them while others say that if it distracts you for one second, the it is dangerous.

It is joined by two bollard which are also flickering.

The matters have been reported to Essex Highways. We will keep any eye on it.

They are all over the town – there is one as you enter Partridge Road from Southern Way that has been going since before November – I reported it then but nothing. I suspect that someone bought a batch of cheap LEDs to save a few quid.

However, I thought all these lights were now networked so that they can be remotely tested/operated? I remember this being done a few years ago at great cost, but perhaps that was for the old style lamps (not LED) and that system is now defunct now the lamps have been changed to LED.

Can anyone shed any light (pun intended) on this?
