ROBERT Halfon, MP for Harlow, today visited a training session with Langley Colts Youth FC to learn more about how The FA and Essex County FA investments are widening grassroots participation, supporting player development and improving facilities in the local community.
During the visit, Robert met with budding young footballers and some of the dedicated staff and volunteers who keep the grassroots game going each week. In recognition of his support for grassroots football in Harlow, Robert was presented with the FA’s Grassroots Champion award.
This visit is part of the new #FootballFootprint campaign which is being run by The FA, the not-for-profit national governing body for the game in England, in conjunction with local County FAs. The campaign is giving MPs an opportunity to meet with the army of workers and volunteers that make grassroots football possible at a local level and to visit showcase sites, initiatives and matches.
Robert Halfon MP said: “It was an honour to receive the FA’s Grassroots Champion award as part of their #FootballFootprint campaign today.
“The work that The FA and Essex FA is doing to support grassroots football and player development here in Harlow is brilliant and shows just how important it us for to continue investing in these facilities so communities can come together and reap the physical and mental benefits that grassroot sport brings.”
Nick Emery, County Development Manager of the Essex FA, said: “We were delighted that Robert was able to spend the morning with us learning about the fantastic work being done by our staff and volunteers each week to support local players.
“Their dedication and commitment to the game is second to none and it’s great that the FA’s #FootballFootprint campaign recognizes that.”
