Proud of Harlow sponsors Harlow Architecture and Design Awards
PROUD of Harlow, the online campaign to celebrate and promote all the great things about Harlow, and to encourage positive action to make the town that we love a better place, is excited to sponsor the Environment category of the Harlow Architectural Design Awards (HADA).
HADA, now in its fourth year, was set up to encourage the highest standards of architecture, landscaping and development while preserving the environment and the town’s heritage.
This year a specific environmental category has been introduced, which will recognise exceptional contributions to the ecology and biodiversity of the natural environment in Harlow through regeneration or sympathetic development, or significant contributions to reducing a development’s carbon footprint, both in its operational energy and carbon performance, and its whole life impact.
A spokesperson for Proud of Harlow, said:
“Sir Frederick Gibberd’s masterplan made sure that Harlow both ‘sat well’ in its environment, and that green spaces were at the heart of every community. There is nowhere in Harlow than is more than a few minutes’ walk from a green space, woodland, stream, or pond.
“Harlow is about to experience a period of rapid growth, bringing jobs, opportunity and investment to Harlow, but it is important that new developments have respect for the Gibberd principles, and sustainable development.
“With many organisations recognising the serious impact of climate change, declaring an environment and climate change emergency, it is vital that developments are sympathetic to their impact on the environment, through design, use of materials, and ongoing energy use.
“HADA’s new Environmental category is an excellent way to highlight good practice, and to send a clear message that Harlow deserves outstanding architectural design in all its forms. Proud of Harlow is delighted to be able to support that work, and I hope this is the beginning of a long-term relationship with HADA to help make Harlow a better place”.
Paul McLintic, who organises the awards on behalf of Harlow Civic Society said:
“We feel very lucky and grateful to have Proud of Harlow sponsor our new environmental award category. Proud of Harlow truly encapsulates what we want for the town, namely, a place to live and work in that is beautiful and successful and where people really appreciate this beauty and success. Proud of Harlow is an ideal fit for the Harlow Architectural Design Awards in that, like our other two sponsors, it is part of Harlow and works within the town to help it prosper.”
