Train stations across the country are set to see some big changes in design, with new safety measures in a bid to cut rail suicides. The new measures will include extra fencing, the removal of seats from the ends of platforms and intelligent’trespass bollards’ where infrared beams will alert station staff to unusual behavior.
The improvements will be welcome to commuters in the Harlow area as there have been a number of suicides in recent years on the lines near to both the Harlow Mill and Harlow Town stations. Alongside these new physical measures Commuters will have already noticed the increased number of Samaritans posters in place around both stations.
The Samaritans can be contacted on their 24-hour helpline at 08457 909090.
