SUZY Stride, Labour’s Parliamentary Candidate for Harlow, recently visited the Harlow based charity Street2Homes. She saw first hand the invaluable work it does with homeless people. Street2Homes provides a safe and friendly environment in which they are able assist the homeless in a number of ways, including finding accommodation and help with training and employment advice. The demand for housing in Harlow always outstrips availability so it can take time to find suitable accommodation.

Suzy visited the Streets2homes day centre to see how it provides a place to access housing advice, social contact, training sessions, employment advice, health services, washing facilities, food, clothing, general guidance and support.

Kerri Eastman, Manager of the Streets2homes Kerr, said :

“We Need landlords to be working with us to provide supporting housing, the need is increasing but there is a real lack of suitable housing. Increasing the amount of accommodation is what is needed.”

Suzy Stride, Labour’s Parliamentary Candidate for Harlow, said: “Streets2homes is an inspiring charity – helping to house homeless people and get them back on their feet and into education or work. The passion and the enthusiasm of the staff is fantastic to see.

“It is sad that the numbers of people becoming homeless and seeking help at Streets2Homes in Harlow is increasing – the lack of jobs and cost of living crisis being the causes- we really do need a government who is going to invest in jobs for the future so that people are earning and contributing to the system and also in jobs so they can afford housing, it is also great to see that we have committed to building a million homes if we win in 2015 and that would help transform the lives of many people in Harlow” suzy3
