HOME-Start Harlow held their first Quiz Night at St John’s ARC on Friday 18th October and raised £500.

The event was organised by Home-Start Trustee Wendy Beckett, and compiled and hosted by her husband, Harlow Council Vice-Chair Ian Beckett. Wendy said “It was a bit nerve-racking, never knowing for sure who or how many people would turn up but the support was tremendous. People were very generous and we were lucky to have some great raffle prizes donated by the Garden of India, Caroline Mitchell Hair & Beauty, Mayfield Bakery, Harlow Dog Stadium and Home-Start supporters.

Corinne Lewis, Vice Chair of Home-Start Harlow, spoke to the Quiz Playing audience about the important work of the organisation that provides families with support when they are struggling to cope with a variety of things such as postnatal illness, a child’s disability, family breakdowns, bereavement or isolation within the local community. Corinne said “Fundraising events like this are vital for the continuation of our work and we’re extremely grateful for everyone’s support”.

Robert Halfon MP, Patron of Home-Start Harlow could not be at the event but generously donated a bottle of whiskyhomestart1home2 signed by the Prime Minister. It fell to the Quiz Master to auction this at the end of the evening. Bidding started at £5 and finished at a remarkable £100 being won by Michael Osborne, partner of Home-Start volunteer Donna Reid. Cllr Beckett said “I was surprised but delighted that we were able to finish the evening with a real boost for Home-Start.”
