From Lahore to Harlow as Tollington Fund set to celebrate tenth anniversary

Lifestyle / Wed 30th Oct 2013 at 01:56pm

ST JOHNS Arts and Recreation Centre in Old Harlow is celebrating the 10th Anniversary of the Tollinton Fund which falls this Autumn. The Fund supports young emerging professional musicians through contributions to the cost of events; it was named in memory of Dr Hugh Tollinton who was based in Harlow for most of his career in Psychiatry, living in Harlow from 1971 to 2003 and enjoying many performances of classical music at the ARC.

However, Hugh Tollinton was born in Lahore which is now in Pakistan, where his father served in the Indian Civil Service; his affection for the people and the culture of the country where he spent his early years continued throughout his life and it is for this reason that an Anniversary Event linked to that country has been developed using original ideas provided by Jamila Gavin, friend of the Tollinton family and Author, supported by the Essex Cultural Diversity Project.

The programme for the event at St John’s Arts and Recreation Centre on Sunday, 24th November, will run from 2.0 pm to 5.15: it includes music provided by Harmeet Virdee (Sitar) Gurdain Rayatt (Tabla/Percussion), Shrimathi Susanna (Dancer) and Jamila Gavin (Storyteller). The Raj Lodge restaurant in Old Harlow is providing a finger food buffet during the interval which will be free for ticket holders.

Tickets cost £12.00 for Adults and £2.00 for children under 12 years of age.

The catering requires audience numbers in advance so that entry is by ticket only; tickets available from:-
