HARLOW MP Robert Halfon is urging residents who will be struggling with their energy bills this winter to contact the Home Heat Helpline, a free advice service for people concerned about household heating costs.

Staffed by specially trained advisers, the Home Heat Helpline offers assistance to the 3.6 million people who are entitled to relief from energy companies this year, around 2,000 of whom are in Harlow.

After meeting with the organisation in Parliament, Mr Halfon said: “The Government has already cut £50 from household energy bills by rolling back green levies, but the Home Heat Helpline ensures that vulnerable customers are receiving the right help to reduce their bills.

“Last winter, the Helpline assisted over 42,000 in Britain, with a £250 energy saving per household.”

Angela Knight, chief executive of Energy UK, said: “We need to look at ways to improve efficiency to keep homes warmer and energy bills lower.

“A free, confidential call to the Home Heat Helpline on 0800 33 66 99 can be made in minutes and can save up to £300 per home.”

Support available from the Government includes extra insulation, grants for new boilers and the £135 Warm Home Discount for elderly and low income families.
