Victory for Halfon over energy bills

Politics / Fri 7th Feb 2014 at 02:00pm

HARLOW MP Robert Halfon has won a significant victory in his campaign to stop energy companies penalising customers who do not pay their bills by direct debit.

Earlier this week, Mr Halfon secured a debate in the House of Commons re energy tariffs.

Now, Energy provider First Utility has announced that it will cut charges for all customers not paying by direct debit to just £2 a month.

The change will come into effect immediately.

Mr Halfon said: “It just shows that a bit of public pressure can go a long way. I am absolutely over the moon that First Utility has decided to do this.

“I hope that other companies will follow suit and act in their customer’s best interests by slashing their charges for those who do not wish to pay for their energy bills by direct debit.

“Everyone should be treated fairly, regardless of how they choose to pay their bills.”
