HARLOW Athletic Club is holding a cross country event for primary school children on the Feb 15th on Latton Common in Harlow.
The event is open to children from schools or athletic clubs.
There will be separate boys and girls races for school years 3 & 4 and 5 & 6. The years 3 & 4 race will be 1000m and the years 5 & 6 race will be 1600m across Latton Common in Harlow.
A club spokesperson said: “This is the first time we’ve held this event which is being done to build better links with local schools and neighbouring athletics clubs.
“We are hosting the event in conjunction with our friends at the British Legion who will be providing refreshments (£1 of each entry fee is given to the Legion as a donation).
“The aim of the event is to encourage more kids into sport and the event is a great ‘warm up’ for the main Harlow Schools XC Champs in March, which is being run by George Gardiner and the Harlow Schools Sports Partnership.
“We are looking for athletes of all abilities to take part in this fun event but cross country is physically demanding and appropriate footwear and clothing must be worn”.
The courses will be carefully marked out and there will be marshals on the duty but luckily as Latton Common is so open, its great for spectators.
Harlow AC will also provide ‘hares’ for the races. Trophies will be awarded to the first 3 finishers in each of the four races and there will be medals for the first three teams in each of the races.
The team event is only open to schools but individual athletes can enter as either their school or athletics club. Pre entry details are on the attached flyer, along with fees and race times etc, or athletes can enter on the day.
