Labour candidate slams Halfon over “Scumbag football hooligans” tweet

Politics / Mon 3rd Mar 2014 at 06:09pm

A PROSPECTIVE parliamentary candidate for Labour has launched a scathing attack on Harlow MP after his tweets regarding “Scumbag football hooligans”

Labour’s Parliamentary Candidate for Basildon and Billericay, cllr Gavin Callaghan, a Sunderland fan, has written to the MP expressing his outrage.

Callaghan’s letter to Mr Halfon said: “On Saturday, Covent Garden was filled with singing, laughing and good humour as supporters enjoyed each other’s company ahead of the Capital One Cup Final at Wembley on Sunday 2 March 2014.

“The celebrations in London were also enjoyed by many hundreds of people who were not associated with Sunderland but who wished to join in with the party atmosphere. Twitter was filled with journalists, sporting personalities and ordinary supporters, relaying jubilant tales, pictures and videos of good natured supporters enjoying themselves and the atmosphere ahead of the biggest football match that Sunderland had played since 1992.

“Your tweet and picture was a gross misrepresentation of the night’s events. Further your tweet bears a scary resemblance to the misguided black propaganda that fills the Hansard of 17 April 1989 in which Tory MPs rose in the chamber of the House of Commons to decry the football hooligans that had caused a fatal crush at the Hillsborough stadium the previous Saturday.

“I thought that this ignorance and the language used by elitist Conservative MPs when talking about football fans had altered following the uncovering of the truth behind that disaster. Your tweet is suggestive of that fact that football fans across the country remain an easy target for smears and that we still have a long way to go to eradicate the levels of ignorance that people such as yourself still possess about supporters of our national game”.

Cllr Callaghan concluded, “Your inability to recognise the error of your ways is regrettable. Your response was weak. You have taken to move your tweets to “private” so that you can now control who reads your ill-informed online bile.

“The people you termed “scumbag football hooligans” (of which many were either my friends, family or people who I routinely attend games with) do not deserve to be generalised by an out of touch elitist Essex MP who has no idea what this weekend meant to a football club, a city and a region, but who were instead making the most of a weekend that on average, only comes round every 20 years for Sunderland supporters.

“You have not had the decency to even apologise.

“So in future, before you’re tempted to tweet with the same level inept footballing knowledge that you deployed this weekend, remember one thing; you have made it clear that you are out of touch and will never understand our national game or the ordinary people that make it what it is”.

There is no bigger scumbag than Callaghan himself, who has had a multitude of Standards Boards complaints against him for harassing local politicians and he is also no stranger to harassing the voting public on his ludicrous Twitter page. Nobody is allowed to have a differing opinion to this individual, whose arrogance and big headedness knows no bounds. A champagne Socialist to the core, he irritates the cr@p out of most local politicians not to mention members of the public.4 He has sore need to criticise somebody else's comments on social networking when he spends most of his political life on Twitter, running other people down. The real story is Callaghan's singular lack of people skills and total unsuitability to hold public office. But the best fun will come next year seeing him get publicly slaughtered in the General Election. The Basildon Labour group are seen very much as a bunch of political baboons and Callaghan is a grinning loony who mouths obscenities at people quite publicly. Vile vile and even viler.

O Great One opines: “You have not had the decency to even apologise. “So in future, before you’re tempted to tweet with the same level inept footballing knowledge that you deployed this weekend, remember one thing; you have made it clear that you are out of touch and will never understand our national game or the ordinary people that make it what it is”. Talk about pot and kettle. This grinning ape has been forced to apologise to his victims by the Standards Board and can't even do that properly as the last time he apologised he took it back immediately by adding the clause "but I think I was right anyway". As for talking about ineptitude, this deadbeat does politics by Twitter and when he actually goes out to do politics, he latches himself on to local issues of which he knows absolutely zero , just to score political brownie points. He couldn't do politics if his life depended on it. He throws all his toys out of the pram big style if somebody opposes his views and starts firing off missives to all and sundry to complain about them. As for "out of touch", he has need to talk about that too... he has never been in touch from the start as he sees himself as far above the people he serves and talks down to them as if they are mere serfs. See how he refers to them as "ordinary people". Who does he think he is, Marie Antoinette? He badly needs to grow a pair and also the dormant organ between his ears needs plugging in to the National Grid occasionally just to top up his grey cell levels. The man is a total airhead.
