Athletics: Harlow runners rev up at Silverstone

HARLOW Running Club were represented at the Adidas Silverstone Half Marathon, run on the historic motor racing circuit and organised by the team responsible for the world famous Virgin London Marathon.

While several HRC members managed one of the water stations en route, five runners completed the course. Andrew Ramage finished the course in 1517th place out of 6778 finishers in a superb 1hr 47min 01sec, a personal best time for the distance by over 3 minutes. He was followed home by Matt Jones 1986th in 1hr 50min 53sec, Paul Schroder 2148th in a PB time of 1hr 52min 29sec, Susan Dewen 4652nd in 2hrs 14min 35sec and Paulene Galoppi 5322nd in 2hrs 23min 16sec.

YH reporter Mark Sweeney made his debut at the 13.1 race and put in a very respectable time.

Meanwhile at the Serpentine 5K at Hyde Park in London Steve Murtagh
finished in 13th place out of 215 finishers and 2nd Vet 40 in an
excellent 17min 7sec.

At the Gunpowder Parkrun 5K at Waltham Abbey Jason Haigh finished in
7th place out of 106 finishers in 19min 59sec and Celia Haigh 70th in
28min 15sec.
