Running: Great day for Harlow Running Club at London Marathon

HARLOW Running Club fielded 14 runners in this years Virgin London Marathon. They joined over 35,000 others runners on what was a great day for spectating but, because of the constant sunshine, made it very warm for running a distance of 26.2 miles. Several runners ran for charity, raising over £3000 for St Clare Hospice, Seafarers, Diabetes UK and Oasis.

Performance of the day belonged to Steve Murtagh. He finished in 177th place and 3rd Vet 50 in a fantastic 2hrs 39min 22sec
to improve the HRC Vet 50 record, which has stood since 2000, by an incredible 20min. First HRC lady was Julia Gardiner in 4727th place in an excellent 3hrs 28min 22sec in her debut at the distance. Jamie Jephcott 4048th finished in a superb 3hrs 24min 04sec, Colin Moody 6442nd in 3hrs 38min 18sec and Andy Terrell 7661st in 3hrs 44min 15sec. Lyndsey Hodge 7449th finished in 3hrs 43min 15sec, Odette Galea 11,948th in 4hrs 00min 39sec and Emma Wadding 14,302nd in 4hrs 11min 10sec, all improved their personal best times for the distance by an amazing 15 minutes, and Janice Page 12,176th in 4hrs 01min 37sec fell just 7 seconds short of her PB. Competing in their debuts at the distance were Paul Schroder 17,352nd in 4hrs 23min 29sec, Spencer Brooks 17,972nd in 4hrs 25min 57sec, Terry Pike 29,076th in 5hrs 20min 58sec and Vicky Calver 31,517th in 5hrs 40min 50sec. Completing the list of Harlow runners was Will Shoults 32,185th in 5hrs 48min 05sec.

Meanwhile at the Gunpowder Parkrun 5K at Waltham Abbey Paul Jeffrey-Read, just back from injury, finished in 6th place out of 83
finishers in a PB equalling 18min 57sec and Jason Haigh 18th in 21min 04sec.

At the Chelmsford Parkrun 5K Robin Lozeau finished in 108th place out of 351 finishers in 23min 19sec.

At the Cambridge Parkrun 5K Andy Kinney finished in 173rd place out of 389 finishers in 25min 05sec in his debut at the distance.

At the Lanhydrock Parkrun 5K at Bodmin in Cornwall Richard Solomons finished in 38th position out of 112 finishers and 1st Vet 65 in 25min 49sec.
