AN INTERESTING ward that is changing all the time.

Cllr Tony Durcan won the seat in 2010 by 363 votes. Not a bad result in an unpopular year for Labour. Since then, Jean Clark won by an impressive 548 votes and then Jon Clempner further extended it by 578.

There is nothing to suggest that Labour won’t win. Tony Durcan is a skilled, personable and key member of the Labour group, who behind the media-friendly exterior is a very good councillor.

The only threat may come from UKIP, whose influence and impact in Harlow is still an unknown quantity. There hasn’t been the huge effort that one has witnessed in areas such as Thurrock but nevertheless Mark Gough’s team will have made an impression and may well reduce the majority to less than 300.

YH prediction: Lab hold 350
