Letter to Editor: Chair of Harlow Labour looks to 2015

Politics / Fri 30th May 2014 at 08:18am

ALL the Labour candidates in last Thursday`s local and European elections wishes to thank all of our helpers and all the many thousands of voters who supported them across the Harlow Constituency.

Everyone in the Labour Party is sadden that some dedicated local Councillors have not been re-elected and that some excellent Labour candidates narrowly missed getting elected. Nevertheless, we are delighted that both Labour appears to have the highest vote in the local elections across the Constituency overall, and that Richard Howitt has been re-elected as an MEP. He is a great friend of Harlow and a brilliant MEP. We are also pleased that we have retained control of Harlow Council. This will ensure a clear sense of direction and purpose for the Town over the coming months.

We recognise that there is a big job to be done between now and the General Election to elect Suzy Stride as Harlow`s next MP. However, we know that we have the right candidate for the task and the right policies based on our long term values of fairness, equity and equality. These will focus on the cost of living for ordinary people and the need for decent jobs, decent affordable housing and top quality public services for all.
