ON Monday the 2nd June, at the Annual General Meeting of the Labour Group on Harlow Council, Councillor Jon Clempner was elected to succeed Cllr Mark Wilkinson as Leader of the Labour Group.

Jon said:

“I am grateful for the support and confidence that the Labour Councillors have shown in me by electing me as Leader of the Labour Group on Monday.

I would like to pass on my thanks to Mark Wilkinson who has lead the Labour group for the last 6 years, and Leader of the Council for the last two years.

During Mark’s term the Council has accelerated the upgrade of Council homes, started building council houses for the first time in years, and become the first Living Wage Council in Essex.

While I am under no illusion that it will be anything other than an extremely challenging year, we have a strong team in place to face those challenges, and I look forward to showing the positive difference a Labour Council can make.

I will be making sure that we have Fairness at the heart of all that we do, reflect the priorities of Harlow people, and work towards making Harlow a better place.”

The election of the Leader of Harlow Council will take place at its Annual Council meeting on the 12th June. The appointment of Councillors to the Cabinet will be announced at that meeting.
