THE VISIT of the Communities minister, Kris Hopkins to the Old Nortel building on the London Road in Harlow today (Wednesday) was deeply significant.

From the building where fibre optic was invented, also the announcement regarding the £5 million injected into the Harlow Enterprise Zone.

For all the plans around Harlow, whether it be housing developments, new schools and colleges and new roads, the press conference there felt like the beginning of a new real dawn.

It felt like the second phase of what started in 1947 was about to begin.

Mr Hopkins was flanked by the Vice-Chair of the Harlow Enterprise Zone, John Keddie, the Vice-`Principal of Anglia Ruskin University, Prof Mike Thorne, Portfolio holder for Regeneration at Essex County Council, cllr Kevin Bentley and portfolio holder for regeneration at Harlow Council, cllr Tony Durcan.

In our news item below, Mr Keddie introduces Mr Hopkins who outlines how the new enterprise zone can create real jobs in Harlow. Cllr Durcan and Bentley go on to detail how the zone can acts as a key domino in the regeneration of Harlow into a significant player in the economic landscape of Essex, the East of England and the UK.
