LOCAL business men and woman showcased Harlow’s capacity for development at a dinner hosted by Robert Halfon MP at Franco’s Italian Restaurant in Roydon this week. The guest speaker, Priti Patel MP, is a member of the Prime Minister’s Policy board.

Priti Patel spoke to Mr Halfon’s supporters about the Harlow Enterprise zone and the benefits it will bring to local business and residents of Harlow. The installation of superfast broadband, improved transport infrastructure and relaxed planning rules as well as tax breaks for existing and new businesses will make Harlow a magnet for bio-tech industries, thus turning Harlow into the silicon valley of the M11 corridor.

The Conservative Party, or the “Party of aspiration”priti, as Robert Halfon dubbed it, is the Party that, “if you are unemployed, will give you the ladder so you can climb to a job. If you are employed, we will give you the ladder to climb to a better life by cutting tax so you can keep more of your money for you and your family. If you are a first time buyer we will give you a ladder to own your own home, we are the Party of hope and aspiration. We are the Party of the Ladder”. He also thanked the Government for the additional £11M grant they announced in February this year for the Zone, which comes on top of the additional £10M the Government is investing in new apprentice school and the extra £5M for Princess Alexandra Hospital extra Accident and Emergency services.

Cllr Russell Perrin, who organised the event, said it was great to see so many businesses in attendance. “It was one of my proudest moments as Portfolio Holder for Regeneration and Enterprise when Harlow won Enterprise Zone status in 2011.” He expressed his gratitude towards the West Essex Alliance, the South East Local Enterprise Partnership and Robert Halfon, with whom, at the head of a regeneration team, he launched the bid that eventually led to the creation of Harlow’s very own Enterprise Zone.
