HARLOW residents were in uproar last night after bonfires were lit across Latton Common close to an illegal encampment by gypsy travellers.
At approximately 6.30pm on Tuesday evening, residents in the Brooklane Field and Upper Mealines area noticed smoke billowing into their gardens.
At least three fires were lit.
YH contacted local councillor, Emma Toal, who told YH that she had liaised with the police as well as local residents regarding the situation.
On Tuesday, YH revealed that the particular encampment had not had an eviction notice issued despite being in Harlow for over a week.
It has led to criticism that the police in Harlow appear rudderless and lacking in authority.
One person called YH to complain. They said: “I went out for a cycle and went through Latton Common last night. I nearly choked to death as I tried to get through the fires.
“What a lovely sight as people come into Harlow”.
Perhaps the leader of the council needs to explain this to all residents of Harlow.
They council was meant to go to court today what's the update?
