Update: Woman serious but stable after M11 crash

Update: 2145 hrs

Police are appealing for information following the road collision on the M11 northbound today (Sunday, August 3).

It happened at around 11.30am between junctions seven and eight. There was a collision between a silver Citroen C5 estate and a silver and black Mitsubishi Shogun. The Shogun ended up leaving the carriageway, striking a tree. The Shogun’s driver, a 26-year-old woman from Margate, had to be airlifted to the Royal London Hospital. Her condition is described as serious but stable.

The northbound track of motorway was closed to allow the air ambulance to land to take the casualty to hospital and for forensic collision investigators to gather evidence.

Essex Police officers are grateful to motorists who patiently endured the delays whilst this vital work was carried out. They would also like to appeal for anyone who witnessed the incident to contact Pc Paul Lindup at Chigwell Road Policing Unit on Essex Police 101.

Update: 1700 hrs

Motorists are advised that the M11 northbound is now open following a road collision between junctions seven and eight.

Emergency services dealt with a collision between two vehicles, a grey Citroen C5 estate and a grey Mitsubishi Shogun. It happened at around 11.30am today (Sunday, August 3).

The motorway was closed to allow the air ambulance to land to take a casualty to hospital and for the vehicles to be recovered.

Motorists are thanked for their patience.

M11 Essex – Severe delays and one lane closed on M11 northbound between J7, A414 (Harlow) and J8, A120 (Stansted Airport), because of a serious accident involving two cars and recovery work. Tailbacks for ten miles. Congestion to J6 M25.

Essex Air Amb has landed and taken patient away. Plan is to open third lane at just after 1430 hrs.

Police advise people not to walk down hard shoulder and also ask drivers on southbound to not “rubberneck:.

Motorists are advised to try and seek alternative routes where possible.
