Plans for youth clubs move a step closer

Politics / Wed 8th Oct 2014 at 03:30pm

phoenixPLANS for a network of youth clubs across Harlow have moved a step closer to reality.

Community representatives including Harlow Conservative MP Robert Halfon and Passmores Academy headteacher Vic Goddard held a meeting to discuss the plans on Thursday, September 25.

The project, spearheaded by businessman and community stalwart Mick Granger, aims to provide entertainment, support and outreach to the town’s 11 to 18 year olds.

The meeting also covered opportunities for market research across the area into what else the new youth clubs should offer.

Also represented at the meeting were Harlow Youth Council, Harlow & District Chamber of Commerce, Harlow Mums in Business, Places for People and the Great Parndon Community Association.

The next stage will involve forming an official committee, giving the project a name and taking steps towards becoming a registered charity.

After that the group will start to look at venues, volunteers and mentors as well as funding and grants.

The next meeting is planned for early November.
