UKIP question cost of travellers, potholes and streetlights and ask: Why are we paying our Council Tax?

A LEADING UKIP activist has questioned why Harlow residents should pay their council tax.

Mark Gough asked the question at a recent meeting of the full council.

He said: “In light of their poor response to the illegal Traveller encampments, their ridiculous policy of turning street lights off at midnight and poor response times for fixing potholes and damaged footpaths, would the Leader of Council agree that Essex County Council is failing the residents of Harlow?”

After a detailed response from cllr Jon Clempner, Mr Gough then asked if the leader would advocate Harlow residents simply refusing to pay their council tax.

Cllr Clempner replied: “That there is no mechanism for the non-payment of council tax due to any perceived deficencies in delivery of services.”

NO! This wasn't what I said AT ALL! I suggested that since Harlow Council collects Council Tax on behalf of both Essex County Council and Essex Police, and that the Leader agreed they were letting down the people of Harlow - shouldn't we use every mechanism at our disposal and withhold the money we'd collected for them until they raise their game! I DO NOT AGREE WITH NON PAYMENT OF COUNCIL TAX!!!
