JUST a point separated Harlow Hawks and North Herts Knights, as the Essex side slipped to a 73-72 home defeat in the Herts County Basketball League division one.

The Hawks opened the game with a score from Russ Allan and a three pointer from Shab Niaz.

Some impressive Hawks defence kept the Knights at bay for most of the quarter, but an 8-2 run from the visitors capped off the first period with the Hawks trailing 13-16.

Opening scores from Daniel Cohen and back to back three pointers for Harlow captain Lee Morris saw the hosts open the second quarter with a 9-2 run.

Costly turnovers allowed the Knights to find easy scores, but at half-time the score was tied 35-35.

The Hawks came out strong after half-time with an 11-4 run.

Alex Hinds struck five points, while back to back to back three pointers from Shab Niaz boosted the tally.

But a late 11-0 run kept the Knights in touch.

Scores from Rimantas Norkeliunas and Tom White kept the Hawks ahead.

At the end of the third quarter Hawks led 58-56.

Scores from White and Cohen gave the Hawks a boost inside, but the Knights just out-scored Harlow to take the points.
