Come and see the Harlow Choral Society for: Love, Loss & Liberation

Lifestyle / Fri 20th Mar 2015 at 01:41pm

Harlow Chorus PassmoresCOME to Passmores Academy, Harlow, on Sunday 29th March, for a concert of transcendent music to welcome the first stirrings of Spring. Harlow Chorus presents Brahms’ A German Requiem which focusses on comforting the living rather than the more usual pleading for mercy in fear of the fires of hell. Glorious music, gentle and dramatic by turns, with the accompaniment Brahms himself arranged for piano duet.

In the first half, chorus, pianists and soloists are joined by the talented youngsters of Henry Moore Primary School’s choir to sing Vaughan Williams’ Five Mystical Songs and Cecilia McDowall’s On Angel’s Wing. These are both settings of poems, in the first piece celebrating the joy of Easter, and in the second, celebrating the transformation of the pain of grief with love.

This concert will be directed by guest conductor Mark Sproson as the Chorus’ Musical Director Alex Chaplin is on a planned sabbatical, returning in May. Mark is much in demand on the London choral circuit and the choir has enjoyed his engaging and challenging rehearsals. We look forward to an exciting evening on the 29th.

Tickets (£15 full, £12 concession, £6 under 16s) are available from Julia Dimon on 01277 362440, online at www.harlowchorus.ticketsource.co.uk (no booking fee) or on the door.
