OVER the past few days, I have been thinking about the old and how many people take advantage of them. These thought were major caused by a neighbour who is a 90 year old lady suffering with dementia, and her house was burglar during the day and while she was in the house, lucky she is ok and well, if it was some else the implication could have been a lot worse.

After this traumatic event, I cannot stress enough how much we should be helping the elderly and vulnerable, many elderly people spend a lot of time on their own without seeing friends or family, and this is when people take the advantage of these vulnerable people as they are desperate for a conversation and attention. However the lady above was not alone desperate for attention, she was a victim of an opportunist.

The aim of my blog this week is, if you know an elderly person, go and speak to them, show that you care and keep an eye on them and help them when they need it.

There are various ways of watching out for our elderly people in our communities such as popping to their house for a chat and maybe a cup of team, if your know of a social club tell them about, so they can meet people of their age or even help them with their shopping.

So as a community we need to come together to watch out and support our elderly, I am not asking to give up everything, just some spare time to support and give attention to the people who need it, to show that their local community cares and they are not own their own.
