Geoff SeeffTHE Liberal Democrat party have announced their candidate to stand for Harlow in the General Election on Thursday May, 7.

A Lib Dem party activist for 20 years, Dr Geoff Seeff, 67, from Woodford, will be standing for the first time in a general election as a parliamentary candidate.

Dr Seeff is an accountant and consultant who specialises in urban regeneration and was nominated to stand by the Liberal Democrats for Harlow at a comparatively late stage of the process.

He said: “The Liberal Democrats have been working hard in this area for a number of years and we have a lot of local support. I hope to keep their vote and do even better.

“I think the Lib Dems are expected to do much better than the recent polls would indicate for a variety of reasons and that is the message we will be giving across in our literature.

“What I would like to see is a renewal of a coalition government, I don’t think the Lib Dems will take power by themselves. I want them to be part of the government and the thought of a Labour SNP coalition fills me with horror.”

Dr Seeff identified the economy, employment and the NHS as the three most important issues for people but said he would like some time to prepare his local manifesto.

“I am going to take a brief from the local Harlow Liberal Democrats tomorrow (Saturday, March 28) about the local issues so I will be ready.

“I have been part of elections before and stood for the Liberal Democrats, but this is the biggest election I have been a part of. I think the 2015 election is going to be very interesting and I will be part of it.”

In 2010 the Lib Dems came third in Harlow with candidate David White taking 13 percent of the vote. However in the intervening years opinion polls have shown the party to have decreased in popularity and are not expected to perform as well this time around.
