HARLOW Town travel to table toppers Needham Market this Saturday in a possible title deciding game in the Ryman North.
The Hawks travel to Needham needing a win to have any realistic opportunity of automatic promotion and end the dreaded prospect of not gaining promotion whilst finishing on over 100 points. A draw would leave Harlow relying of others results and a defeat would hand the title to the Suffolk side.
Harlow have enjoyed a magnificent season in which they have scored 104 goals (the most in the league) and have only suffered seven defeats (the least in the league) and in doing so have racked up a remarkable 99 points in just 44 games.
The possibility of the Essex based side finishing a massive 20 points above fifth place Thurrock will leave many asking, how can a team finish so far ahead of another and gain no advantage?
This instance brings up the dispute regarding the play offs.
Town’s probable semi-final opponents would be Thurrock or Dereham Town. This seasons results against the duo are dissimilar with Harlow gaining six points against Dereham in the two league meetings compared to just one against Thurrock with a draw and a loss.
If the Hawks were to progress they would host a final against either AFC Sudbury or Brentwood Town. A narrow victory and a draw against Brentwood and two draws against Sudbury justify how difficult the task of sealing promotion through the play offs would be.
This weekend’s game will be the biggest since Harlow suffered defeat in last season’s play-off final with a big crowd expected and a strong away following from the visitors.
