Objections made to 24-hour McDonald’s at Hastingwood

McDonalds HarlowA MOVE by the McDonald’s restaurant at Hastingwood to open 24 hours a day is being opposed by North Weald Bassett Parish Council.

The council is objecting to the environmental impact the round-the-clock opening would have, the expected disturbance from HGVs using the site at night, it being too close to homes and a fear that litter around the site will increase.

Monday’s parish council planning meeting was told that the move would create up to 20 jobs and that the additional hours had been welcomed by the vast majority of people who had been consulted by the restaurant.

Councillor Baden Clegg said: “I totally object to a 24-hour McDonald’s. I don’t think that the people who live next door will appreciate that when HGVs come and park, they will not get much sleep.”
He added: “I don’t think they know what they are letting themselves in for. I just don’t like the idea.”

The parish council will ask Epping Forest District Council whether, should permission be given, a condition can be imposed requested additional litter picks in the local area.
