LAST year, veteran Mike Danvers retained his seat with a majority of 191. Once again, it was UKIP’s best chance and the missed out.

Edna Stevens is another highly visible and dedicated Harlow councillor, who should be able to defend her seat.

It looks like solid Labour territory but between UKIP and Conservative there were over 900 votes polled. One of them has to give this time and with the UKIP vote collapsing in Mark Hall a few months ago, it looks like the same may happen here.

The Conservative candidate is the community minded John Steer, who always puts up a good fight

It may be a seat worth keeping an eye on over the next few years as the communities change and grow.

But for now:

Prediction: Lab hold

The UKIP vote did not collapse in Mark Hall - it stayed at home as a result of a nasty vindictive anti-UKIP Campaign, which is running again this campaign. Chris Ward is the only candidate that lives in the ward. John Steer lives in Old Harlow, Robert Thurston in Mark Hall, and the 80 year old Edna Stevens lives in Potter Street.
