Ward by Ward: Bush Fair

AND so we come to our final ward. UKIP sneaked this ward by 50 votes last year. A lot of it was down to the hard work of Dan Long and his family. Needless to say, with another family member standing, cllr Dan, as he is affectionately known as, has been working hard across the ward.

The sitting councillor has a lot of good will. Cllr Ian Beckett has also been chair of Harlow Council this year and he has been a fantastic ambassador for the town. And he runs a tight ship at council meetings.

Cllr Beckett has also been hard at work in his ward duties and knows every bit of the ward like the back of his hand.
He will be hard to shift and with Labour expected to flood the ward on Thursday, he may well benefit from a Stride bounce.

YH prediction: Lab hold

Malik Ash (Cons)
Ian Beckett (Lab)
Patsy Long (UKIP)
Christopher Robins (Lib Dem)

What Stride bounce? I have never seen him around the ward unless it is sitting down for an Indian meal. He uses his chairmanship in an over bearing manner when it come to questions from residents, and not a week goes by when there is not a photo of him treating the chain of his office as pantomime prop. Rather than with the respect it deserves.

Whilst I'm totally biased I feel the above comment isn't fair or reflective of the key role the chair of council has.the chairs role is a neutral role and works as an ambassador and advocate for all parts of the Harlow community.the reason why you see the chair in the press is because they are invited to speak and open events weekly. Its a great ask and challenge to any councillor to balance the role of councillor and chair.each year I'm always impressed with the skill, knowledge and energy the person brings to this role. Ian has been a great champion for many causes and I'm proud of what he has achieved.all serious political parties accept this key role and I hope this reassure carra.
