THE Princess Alexandra NHS Trust’s Patient Panel is holding an event to inform the general public about recent changes to Ambulatory and Emergency Care at the hospital.

Some of the Trust’s clinical staff will speak at the event, explaining what patients can expect if they need to come the hospital’s Emergency Department. It’s hoped that by raising awareness of how the department is run, there will be a rise in patient satisfaction.

Patient Panel Chairman, Ann Nutt, explained: “Patients need to know that when they come into the emergency department there is not only one option of treatment, there are actually numerous options available all within the emergency department and all offering the best possible care in a variety of settings.

“When you are sick and in the emergency department, it isn’t the easiest thing to take in all the information and options available, so it does help if patients have a an understanding of how the department works before they need to use the service.

“Patients in the emergency department sometimes comment that they were seen by a nurse and not a doctor. In reality, this is one of the many forms of treatment available. The issue here is expectation.”

The event is taking place on 28May between 2pm and 4pm at Harlow Leisurezone. There is limited space, so anyone interested in attending is asked to book a seat by calling: 07516 711189.

The Patient Panel is made up of a group of volunteers who represent patients, families and carers at The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust.
