Athletics: Ladies outshine men at midweek league

HARLOW Running Club competed in the second round of the Herts/Essex
Mid Week Road Race League Div 2 last week, over a very hilly 6 mile
course through Epping Forest at Chingford. As in the first round the
ladies outshone the men by finishing their race in 2nd place, and also
1st ladies vet team, against the men’s 4th place and overall Harlow
were 4th out of 9 teams. After two races Harlow are in 3rd place with
29pts, behind host club Orion Harriers with 32pts and Fairlands Valley
Spartens from Stevenage with 30pts. First Harlow lady to finish was
Louise Brass in a fantastic 2nd place out of 89 finishers and 1st Vet
35 in 41min 12sec. She was followed home by Julia Gardiner 5th and 3rd
Vet 35 in 43min 38sec, Sharon Wright 11th in 44min 42sec, Carinne Jay
14th and 2nd Vet 45 in 45min 09sec, Vicky Steadman 16th in 46min 12sec
and Paulene Galoppi 81st and 3rd Vet 65 in 61min 19sec. In the men’s
race Jamie Jephcott finished in 23rd place out of 165 finishers in a
superb 38min 12sec. He was followed by Andy Terrell 37th in 40min
11sec, Adrian Fell 43rd in 40min 38min, Steve Mackenzie 46th in 40min
55sec and Jim Bates 131st and 2nd Vet 70 in 49min 20sec.

Meanwhile at the Harlow Parkrun 5K Ben Chitiyo was victorious for the
third consecutive week, finishing 1st out of 138 finishers in an
excellent 19min 06sec. He was followed by Paul Dixon 15th in a
personal best time for the distance (PB) of 22min 38sec, Spencer
Brooks 23rd in 23min 46sec, Robin Lozeau 24th in 23min 52sec, Jim
Bates 28th and 1st Vet 70 in 24min 38sec, Alan Wellbelove 50th in
26min 11sec, Debbie Barry 53rd in 26min 16sec, Debbie Smith 59th in
26min 48sec, Martyn Coulter 62nd in 27min 11sec(debut), Jeff Mace 66th
in 28min 00sec(PB), Louise Cootes 67th in 28min 04sec, Michelle Hughes
92nd in 31min 00sec(debut) and Austin Nyamamde 103rd in 33min 57sec.

At the Hatfield Forest Parkrun 5K John Bull finished in 13th place out
of 188 finishers in 21min 40sec with Jason Haigh 22nd in 22min 30sec,
Martin McColgan 38th in 24min 07sec, David Page 49th in 24min 56sec,
Janice Page 53rd in 24min 59sec, Terry Pike 64th in 25min 32sec,
Alison Bull 97th in 28min 00sec, Peter Mills 124th and 3rd Vet 65 in
30min 19sec, Paulene Galoppi 144th and 1st Lady Vet 65 in 31min 35sec
and Joanne Mills 145th and 2nd Lady Vet 65 n 31min 37sec.

At the Panshanger Parkrun 5K at Hertford Sean Flynn finished in 30th
place out of 256 finishers in 22min dead.

At the Edinburgh Marathon Jamie Jephcott finished in 279th place out
of 7160 finishers in an excellent 3hrs 11min 01sec and son Daniel was
2019th in 3hrs 50min 09sec.

Prolific runner Andy Kinney completed two marathons within the week.
On Wednesday he completed the Dunkirk 75th Anniversary Challenge, an
off road race between Dover and Folkstone, finishing in 56th place out
88 finishers in 6hrs 10min 32sec. Then on Saturday he completed the
Kent Roadrunner Marathon, involving several laps of the Cyclopark at
Gravesend in Kent, finishing in 273rd place out of 387 finishers in
4hrs 48min 09sec.
