A GROUP of Harlow fireman have voiced their discontent towards the lack of recognition for their services in a recent cultural review of the Essex County Fire and Rescue Service.

The report was a general investigation into Essex Fire and Rescue Service. The report (published on Wednesday) revealed a “toxic culture” within the service.

And deep with in the report is a reference to concerns expressed by Essex Fire Officers.

The report states: “This came after a group of officers claimed that “after twenty years’ service they were not awarded the standard Queens medal”. The group made specific reference to a major house fire in Harlow, in which the key role of the crew failed to be acknowledged in the debrief that followed. This is said to have “caused resentment” within the department.

Some sources have suggested that the fire referred to was the fatal “Shakoor family” fire but that has not been confirmed.
