Politics / Mon 7th Sep 2015 pm30 05:30pm

Refugees WelcomeTHE leader of Harlow Council has pledged that the organisation will “do its bit” over the refugee crisis in Europe.

Councillor Jon Clempner, Leader of Harlow Council, said: “The current refugee crisis and the images we have all seen has moved me and many people in the country.

“I’m clear that as a Community Leader, the council, and other organisations we work with, have to do what we can to help and I’m sure the community will support this view.

Since last week the Council has been keeping an eye on developments and it has started to explore with other organisations what Harlow can do to help and support refugees with housing and other services. Government has to step up however, and central funding and support has to be in place.

“Along with other Councils up and down the Country we want to do our bit to help and following today’s statement by the Prime Minister in the Commons we await more information on how they will put the plans in place.”
