PARENTS are being encouraged to apply for their children’s primary school places.

All children are entitled to start school in the September after their fourth birthday and the window for applications is now open for children starting reception from September 2016 onwards.

Parents and carers of children born during the period 1 September 2011 and 31 August 2012 must apply between 9 November 2015 and 15 January 2016 for primary school places for the 2016-17 intake.

Applications can be made at www.essex.gov.uk/admissions. The website also enables parents to search for the school information, read Ofsted reports and check admissions criteria.

Cllr Ray Gooding, Essex County Council’s Cabinet Member for Education and Lifelong Learning, said: “Applying for a school place for your child can be a difficult decision and I would urge parents to make use of all of the tools available on the website before submitting an application.

“We are making significant investment in creating additional school places across the county, however there continues to be an increased demand and schools can become oversubscribed.

“It is therefore vitally important that parents consider admissions criteria carefully and give themselves the best opportunity to be considered for a school they want by using all four preferences.”

Parents must submit applications by 15 January 2016 and are encouraged to use all of their preferences.

Any applications submitted after the deadline will be considered once all on-time applications have been determined.
