Harlow Hockey 2Ladies 1’s

2-1 Loss against Upminster

Sometimes it is what it is… 1-1 in every way but the official result

Winter is here…and Upminster got an early Christmas present.
The game began with Upminster having more of the ball but not being able to break down the Harlow defence. Shearman and Care made good interceptions and the only chances were created through short corners which were run down and blocked by Sarah Donaghey. Going forward Esterhuysen-Smith and Chambers had shots saved and at half time Harlow were pleased with their efforts and deserved to be level with the league leaders.
Second half Harlow began brightly passing the ball about. Kelly Ball having a strong game at right midfield linked well with Spencer and ended in a short corner. The short corner went narrowly wide from Tweddle.

Upminster came into the game and short corners they had were saved well by Hay and charged down by Donaghey. It didn’t seem like there would be a goal in the game until a shot was excellently saved by Hay in goal but the umpire inexplicably signalled for a goal that even the Upminster players weren’t claiming.

Spencer and Esterhuysen-Smith pushed forward but were unable to get Harlow back level and space left down the Harlow left allowed a cross to be bundled in for a second goal for Upminster. With not long left on the clock Harlow pushed more players forward and won a short corner. Chambers dragged out to Tweddle who slipped it right to Spencer who finished past the keeper at her near post for what should have been an equaliser but turned out to be a consolation goal.
