A LEADING Harlow councillor has praised the agencies who have taken up his concern over off-road bikers.

Bush Fair councillor, Ian Beckett said: “When I contacted Insp Maleary a few weeks ago, regarding a nuisance motorcyclist, I was at pains to emphasise that this was not an isolated incident and that residents were frustrated at the perceived lack of action. To be honest, the delay in a response from Essex Police was starting to worry me until I learned that they were busy working up a sustainable solution not a sticking plaster.

“This solution will still need the cooperation of Harlow residents. Resources are such that we need them to be our eyes and ears in the community; we need them to report every incident and provide photographic evidence if possible. I’m realistic to know that not every case will be followed up immediately or specifically by the police but injunctions are not awarded without an accumulation of evidence.

“Finally, this is not about trampling over the freedom of expression of our young people. Far from it. It is about ensuring that everyone operates within the law and takes into consideration the safety, peace and wellbeing of everyone else in our neighbourhoods, our streets and our homes”.
