AS part of its Ageing Well programme, East Herts Council is proud to support “Silver Sunday”- a national event celebrating the contributions of older people to the community as well as helping to tackle loneliness and isolation.
Grants of up to £300 are available to organise events on the weekend of September 30 – October 2 for those aged 65 plus. All types of leisure and educational activities/events will be considered whether they’re active or seated, from guest speaker events to tea dances and sporting activities or for community group activities/classes which start on Silver Sunday weekend and carry on afterwards. To find out more and for ideas on how you can get involved in East Herts, go to Silver Sunday.
Eric Buckmaster executive member for health and wellbeing said: “Last year there were eight events organised in the district including parties and lunches. I hope many more groups will apply this year, as these grants offer a marvellous opportunity for our residents to go along to an enjoyable social event and get together with other members of the community.”
The application form is at www.eastherts.gov.uk/silversundaygrants. For help on completing an application you can email: [email protected] or call 01279 655261 and ask for the engagement and partnerships team. The closing date for applications is Friday September 2. ENDS
