HARLOW Judo Club entered 15 of its young and up and coming squad members to compete at its annual event held at Harlow’s Leisurezone. The event, Under 16 12th Mon & Below competition (Green belts and below) was oversubscribed and entries had to be turned away. Some very good Clubs attended the event so the standard of Judo was high.
The Club returned with a fantastic haul of 13 trophies – 5 Golds were won by Kenzie Deamer (10), George Franks (10), Ralfy Webb (9), Jake Salhi (12) and Giacomo Misuraca (14). Silvers were won by Seth Horsely (9), Kane Horsley (11), Sam Cobbin-Brown (9) and Sofia Kafas(9) and Bronze trophies were won by Irvin Camara (9), Fleur Salhi (10), Freddy Harvey (9) and Thomas Norman (9). Charlie Armstrong (9) was placed 5th and just missed out on a place on the rostrum and Owen Lambert (11) was unplaced having been lost both of his first 2 fights.
Both he and Charlie had graded very recently and this meant that they were fighting in their next respective grade section with older opponents. For Owen, he had also gone up a weight group which added to the pressure.
All players had graded very recently which therefore meant that some of them went up to the next belt category facing new competitors and also new weight groups, however all players fought extremely well and as always, gained valuable experience.
The squad was coached by Junior Team Manager, Sarah Brown, who said of her charges “The standard of the squad’s judo was very good however there is always room for improvement. They all listened well to instruction and I’m glad most of them came away with something as well as a trophy”.
Special thanks go to the event organisers, committee members and parents who volunteered in different areas of the event especially before and after the competition.
The Club is based in Foldcroft, Harlow, CM20 1SE. For training times, please visit www.harlowjudoclub.com or contact Gill Ellis on [email protected] or 07976 955905 for further information.
