Government pledges support for Harlow homeless

GREAT news for Harlow from the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government. Together with other targeted areas in Essex, Harlow will be receiving £891,300 as part of the Government’s Homelessness Prevention Trailblazers scheme.

This funding is for local authorities to try out new initiatives and expand their homelessness prevention work to a wider group of people. They will be able to target families and individuals who they believe to be at risk so that they can stop being made homeless in the first place.

Harlow MP, Robert Halfon said: “Over Christmas, I was very pleased to go to the opening of the Harlow Chocolate Run Homeless Shelter and meet some of the amazing volunteers who were working there. The Chocolate Run Christmas Shelter runs every year and is a tribute to the vision and compassion of those in Harlow’s community who make it possible.

“Streets2Homes are another fantastic charity in Harlow that run a day centre all year round for homeless people in Harlow. They are dedicated to providing guidance and support to those who need it and have transformed many peoples lives.

“We already have some fantastic organisations and individuals working in Harlow to prevent homelessness, but there is always more that can be done. I hope that this new Government funding will be able to reduce homelessness in Harlow and support, and build on, the brilliant work already being done”.
