Streets AstroAstro Lighting donates £20,000 to local charity Streets2Homes

Harlow-based lighting designer Astro Lighting has donated £20,000 to local charity Streets2Homes, as part of their commitment to supporting the charity over the next 12 months.

Founded in 1997 by John Fearon and James Bassant, Astro Lighting is now celebrating its 20th anniversary and has recently set out its corporate social responsibility programme. As part of this, the business sought to establish a close partnership with a local charity.

Streets2Homes was chosen as Astro’s charity of the year after John and James both met with Streets2Homes CEO Kerrie Eastman and were blown away by the
incredible work the charity does on a day to day basis, and how much of a difference they make to individuals within the local area.

Streets2Homes supports homeless people, or those at risk of becoming homeless, by offering a day centre for individuals aged 18 and over. The charity offers essential support in finding accommodation, getting back into employment, opportunities to gain qualifications, as well as providing basic amenities such as hot meals, warm clothing and access to shower facilities. With a team of just three employees and around 20 volunteers, resources are spread thin on the ground and so the charity relies heavily on donations and support from the public and other local organisations.

John Fearon and James Bassant, Co-Founders said, – “At Astro Lighting, we have been very fortunate to have enjoyed success and growth since our foundation 20 years ago. As we continue to grow, it is important to us that we give back to our local community. We feel very proud that one of the first actions we have been able to take is to be partnering with local charity Streets2Homes to support the incredible work they do for homeless people and those at risk of becoming homeless within the local Harlow area.”

A dedicated team at Astro are now working together to organise fundraising events and opportunities to support Streets2Homes, starting with a rather daunting abseil of the Harlow water tower.
